Spring Break

Spring break is over. We had a very fruitful break to say the least. Yep!!! The crib is assembled. It wasn't so bad putting it together. Raghu did all of it. Need I say that!!! I provided the required moral support and comic relief when needed:)
Monday and Tuesday Raghu was in OKC for a workshop. Tuesday night we had our childbirth class. Saturday we had Anu and Ajay over for dinner. Over all a very well spent break.

Oh yeah we bought this Ultimate James Bond DVD collection- all 20 Bond flicks. We spent some evenings watching the Bond movies and sipping margaritas... well not really.
The weather is beautiful. Sun is out and spring is definitely in the air.

Childbirth Class III

Today was the last installment of the Childbirth Classes we have been attending. Today was all about C-section. Why one gets a C-section and when is it absolutely necessary and all related stuff. Very educative.
I am hoping and praying for a vaginal birth. Finally it is up to the baby and what the doctor decides.
It was a short class. We had an over load of information.
As mentioned before we are ready to be taken over by the baby.
There are optional classes that are being offered. I intend to go for the breathing class which is Wednesday March 28, conflicts with my book club meeting. I decided to give my book club a pass and attend the breathing class instead.

Dinner at our place

Saturday we had a few of Raghu's colleagues for dinner. We have been wanting to have them over for quite some time now. A total Indian fare. All of them love Indian food. And do occasionally cook Indian khana.
There is a India grocery store here in Stillwater run by a Malayalee..who else!!! He has some really authentic South Indian stuff. Frozen puttu and kadala, aviyal, pal appams, varieties of parathas and much much more.
We do most of our shopping there. No need to drive to Oklahoma City any more. We bought some Indian snacks and naan for the dinner.
The guests started to arrive at about 6 pm. We also had some beer and wine to go with food. Yes.. we had non alcoholic drinks- orange and apple juice.
We started with Dhokla and coconut chutney. We also had store bought khakras. Jeera flavour. Really yum!!!
The main course : Mango rice(by popular demand) with raita made of cucumber and dill.Peas Pulao, dal tadka, brinjal curry, chole with naan. Fresh salad. Food got demolished. Hardly any left overs. I am pleased with myself.Yeah I know I am bragging:) I don't miss an opportunity do I!!!
For dessert we had rasmalai(made with ricotta cheese and milk) and fruit salad with ice cream.
All in all a great evening. We got to bed by 11 pm. Tired but great evening!!!
Sunday we drove to Oklahoma City. Spent a few hours shopping at Super Target. And then headed to the OSU campus in Oklahoma City. Raghu had a workshop to attend. I took a book along to read and spent time in the campus. Had a good picnic. The weather was prefect. Drove back to Stillwater just in time to make it for dinner at Ashwini's place. Grilled corn and assortment of veggies with chips and salsa.
Dinner was a typical South Indian fare. Subbu made this fabulous Jackfruit hulli. Man.. touched the spot for the pregnant lady. He refuses to share his secret recipe. Had a great evening!!!
The week has been busy with meeting friends and enjoying good food. Love it.

Crib

After much thought and debate we decided to order the crib online. I am not much of a online shopper. Yes I sound like I live in the medieval times. I know. I prefer to touch and feel and know what I am getting. The only things I order online are books and CDs. Anyways... we went ahead and ordered a crib. It should be here soon. Just in time for the spring break... one of many activities Raghu is planning to accomplish.

And my father-in-law got his visa. And he will be here end of April. We are so excited to have him visit us. He is going to be a great help when the baby is around. We are slowly getting the guest bedroom ready for his visit. He will be here for a whole three months. Oh Appa we are so thrilled that you are finally able to visit us.

Child birth class II

Today we had our part 2 of the Child birth class series. It is a 3 part class. It was helpful and nerve racking. We were inundates with tons of information and got to watch a video. This time on epidural. WOWO!!! I pray and hope all goes well. Keep your fingers crossed.
The classes are helpful no doubt but scary too.
Before that we had an pre natal pediatric appointment. We met with Dr Wright. He seemed like a nice doctor. Very straight forward and knew his facts. He will be a good doctor for our baby. We spent an hour with him. I had a list of question .... of course!!! It was reassuring talking to the pediatrician. I think we are ready to welcome the baby, but scared about being parents for the rest of our lives!!!
We headed to Panera's for a light dinner before our Child birth class. I love the panini sandwiches they have.
The child birth class lasted about an hour. We headed home after that. Our next class is on Tuesday March 20.

30 weeks

I am 30 weeks now. Wow.. which means another 10 more to go. We had a doctor's appointment today. We also got an ultrasound done. Amazing to see a 30 weeks ultrasound. My first indeed!!!What technology can do!!! Baby is looking and doing good. And the appointment was routine. Just the way I like it. Check blood pressure, weight and related measurements. Everything looks on track.
We now had appointments every two weeks... which means... we are closer. My next appointment is March 26 just after spring break.
My friends back in Iowa were planning to throw me a baby shower(I still cannot believe that) during the weekend March 23-25. The plan was for the two of us to drive down Thursday and drive back to Stillwater on Sunday just in time for Raghu to get back to work after spring break. The spring break for OSU begins March 17 thru March 25. After this appointment we decided against undertaking that 9+ hr drive. I am feeling a little more tired these days.
Love my dear friends back in Iowa City. Miss them. But I know their good wishes are with me. Thank you for thinking of me.

Great weekend

The weekend was fabulous. The weather was just great to be outdoors and entertaining. We happened to be at Lowes' on Friday night and saw this nice outdoor set. Simple and nice. Something we have been looking for. Just in time for our guests on Saturday afternoon.
Very easy to set up.
Saturday we had some friends over for lunch. All from Bangalore(the city we come from back in India) and of course Kannada speaking( the language we speak). Ashwini and Subbu have two sons aged 6( Rishabh) and 2(Ritwik).The boys are so well behaved. I was so amazed. Need to talk to Ashwini about parenting tips!!! Deepak and Shubha are also expecting their first baby in May. She is due two weeks before I am. Nice to have a pregnant buddy.
We had a great time. Sat outdoors with kids enjoying their time in the back yard. The kids inaugurated their new bikes
I had cooked a south Indian fare. Yes I cook!!!

Made mango rice, rajma, vegetable stew, naan, raita and fresh salad. Dessert was rasmalai which Ashwin made and choice of 3 different ice creams. All had a great time. After that hearty lunch the next best thing was a siesta! Which we indulged in of course. At about 5 pm we headed out to Boomer lake for a nice walk by the lake. I walked while Raghu ran. Also got to catch up with my good friend Julie in Iowa.

Happy Birthday...

Thanks to all of you for the good wishes and for remembering. It was a special one!!! I got to speak to my cute little niece .. oh that was precious. Now that she can talk and we can have a conversation.Real conversations.Yes, I can talk to 3 yr olds.
I spend the day shopping and just enjoying the warm beautiful weather. Raghu had to get to work since he had to teach. We had out first Childbirth class in the evening. We had decided to go for desserts after the class. Well... little did we know what we were in store for.
The class was packed. They were about 20 couples. All expecting babies in the months April and May. And most of them expecting boys!!! How interesting is that.
The class began with some basic hospital procedures and then we watched a video of childbirth. A vaginal delivery. Class lasted for about an hour and a half. After watching all that there was no appetite for cheese cake or chocolate cake. We just drove home:) I had made kesari baath...( A Indian sweet dish made of cream of wheat) since I was craving for it.
All in all a peaceful and nice day. Just the way I like it to be.

Happy Holi!

May the festival of colours add many more colors in all our lives. We had a Indian get together here in Stillwater. It was our first. Met a lot of folks. The main draw being FOOD!!! Yum Indian stuff. The spread was awesome. Catered from a restaurant in Oklahoma City. Samosas, bondas with sweet and green chutney, Naan, Mutter Paneer, Aloo Gobi, Maa ki Daal, Malai Kofta, Pulao, Raita and of course dessert. Gajar ka Halwa, Gulab Jamun and Chocolates.
I had an excuse to eat, not that I need one now:) Also got a chance to dress up in traditional attire. God I do look very so pregnant. Sari does a good job of covering the big belly.
Also we ventured to do some baby shopping earlier in the day. Oh my GOD!!! I am totally confused and overwhelmed:) We spend the day at Babies R Us in Oklahoma City. The drive is about an hour long. We short listed on the type of stroller/car seat that we want and also looked at various cribs. Not an easy decision to make. There will be many more trips to that store in the next 10 weeks.
